  • A person insured with your company has hit my car. I have become helpless without my car as I travel everyday to Al Ain. Can you provide rent-a-car?

    No. We do not provide replacement car.

  • Are consequential losses covered?

    Consequential loss of any kind or description including penalties, losses due to delay, lack of performance, loss of contract are excluded.
  • Can I cancel a Contractors All Risk/ Erection All Risk policy at any time?

    No, they are non-cancelable policies.
  • Can I cancel my policy?

    Yes you can if you return the policy to OIC office within 14 days from date of issue subject to not being able to travel due to not having obtained visa or due to Medical condition.
  • Can I participate in sports activities during my travel?

    Yes the insurance provides extension cover for all Sports including winter sports. However, at a loaded premium of 100% depending on the sports.
  • Can I take one insurance for traveling to more than one destination?

    Yes you can but premium will be charged based on the area with the highest premium chargeable. i.e. travelers to Europe and USA would be charged the USA premium.
  • Can I visit outside the network? How do you pay?

    Non-network access is subject to the terms and conditions of the policy. You will have to pay the whole cost of the treatment and apply for reimbursement. The claim shall be settled as per the terms and conditions of the policy.In case of elective Hospitalization make sure that OIC is informed by you. If procedures or investigations in one outpatient visit are exceeding the gross cost of AED.500/-is required the insured member should arrange for necessary prior approval from the Company. In case of emergency please call Help line for the required details. The reimbursement shall be made as per the policy terms with application of non-network deductibles.
  • Can you cover my stock for Burglary?

    Yes, we can cover stock under burglary policy provided there is a corresponding fire policy covering the same stock. There is an option to cover stock against burglary under Fire Policy by way of extension.
  • Do you insure Jet Ski?

    Normally we do not provide insurance coverage for physical damage to the Jet Ski but we can insure third party liability arising out of use of jet ski as well as personal accident to the driver.
  • Do you insure cars, vans, and buses? What rate do you charge?

    Yes, rate depends up on the age, the capacity, make and value of the vehicle.
  • Do you insure plasma T.V. ? If yes, do you provide All Risk cover?

    We can provide All Risks cover for Plasma T.V provided there is adequate packing.
  • Do you insure pleasure craft?

    Yes. We insure pleasure crafts ranging from small up to luxury pleasure crafts worth tens of million dirhams.
  • Do you insure wooden dhow?

    In principle, we do not insure wooden trading dhows but we do insure wooden dhows used for pleasure and as floating restaurants.
  • Do you provide Hull with P&I ?

    Yes, we provide P&I cover as per the clauses in conjunction with Hull & machinery insurance cover. Besides, we can offer full P&I insurance which includes liability to cargo, crew & pollution liability from one of the reputable P&I clubs in the London market.
  • Do you provide all risk cover for personal effect?

    We provide all risk cover for personal effect on case-to-case basis.
  • Do you provide insurance for Oman?

    Yes, if the car is insured with us.
  • Does the Insurance provide coverage for all Medical Expenses ?

    No The Medical Expenses cover under this insurance is only in case of Emergency only which the doctors can determine. However, pre-existing sicknesses/diseases are not covered.
  • Does the Travel Insurance cover period of more than one month?

    Yes the Travel Insurance can cover you for single as well as multi travels with policy period of up to one year. However, the period of stay during any travel should not exceed 60 days.
  • How can I get my motor policy renewed?

    We usually renew the policy with the same terms and rate unless the loss ratio is high.
  • How do you charge excess? Is it on consignment value or on total sum insured?

    It can be percentage of shipment value or percentage of claim amount or sometimes a fixed amount.
  • How much I have to pay when I have a claim? Do I have to pay if it’s not my fault?

    You have to pay the excess amount mentioned in the policy if it is your fault. If it is not your fault then you don’t have to pay any excess.
  • I am a staff of. (Co. name). What hospitals / Clinics / Pharmacies can I access?

    The type of network allotted for each policy holder is mentioned on the OIC Health card. The list of Health care providers is available on OIC website. www.tameen.ae and also available with the insurance coordinator/ HR dept. of your company.
  • I am going away from UAE for good can I avail the travel Insurance?

    No this insurance is valid only for UAE? GCC residents who travel from and return back to UAE/GCC.
  • I am sending giraffes to Kuwait can you insure them?

    We can insure giraffes under Livestocks insurance clauses.
  • I am sending my gold ornaments to my friend by courier, it is a gift. Can you provide insurance ?

    Yes. We can provide cover subject to All Risks Parcel Post Clause, at least 25% of the value should be declared to the carrier. (on the or Air way bill)
  • I have a 4WD insured with your co. is my claim paid if anything happens to me off road i.e. desert?

    Yes. We pay the claim provided that the vehicle is not on Safari activities.
  • I have a printing press. Can you provide coverage?

    Yes, we can cover it under Fire or Property All Risks policy.
  • I have been driving since 2 months in UAE but for almost 3 yrs. in Oman can I get full insurance.

    Yes. GCC Experience counts.
  • I have comprehensive policy with you. My father will be coming down from UK and will be driving my car is he covered if car/he makes an accident.

    As a visitor yes. However he has to have a valid diving license and a relevant permission from the local traffic dept.
  • I have met with an accident and it is not my fault do I still have to pay excess.

    No.
  • I have shifted to Abu Dhabi or any other emirate. Can I get my motor renewal done in Abu Dhabi (any other emirate)?

    Yes. You can get your car renewed in any of the branch nearest to you. You need to get your motor insurance certificate from the branch near you.
  • I have submitted my claim to OIC & have still not received the reimbursement?

    You need to contact the Toll Free No on 800 47 46 and inquire status with the Customer Care specialist.
  • I want to insure my office/shop/warehouse. What kind of insurance can you provide?

    Fire or Property All Risks.
  • If I do not have a UAE residence visa can I take Travel Insurance?

    No the Travel Insurance is for UAE/GCC residents only.
  • In case I fail to obtain a travel visa in time or need to change my travel plan can I change my travel dates?

    Yes you can change your travel dates any time as long as the changes are not beyond 60 days from the date of the original policy issue or after the date of original intended travel.
  • Is Burglary a standalone Policy?

    Burglary policy can be issued only when there is a corresponding Fire policy covering the items.
  • Is Third Party Liability covered under Contractors Plant and Machinery Policy?

    Yes, T.P.L is covered whilst the equipment is being used as a tool of trade within contract sites.
  • Is Tsunami covered under Fire policy?

    Yes, provided the policy covers Earthquake.
  • Is War Risk compulsory?

    No, its not. It depends on the insured’s choice but it is advisable.
  • Is damage to neighboring property/Injury to third parties due to vibration or by he removal or weakening of support covered in C.A.R?

    No, It is an exclusion under the policy. However, this exclusion can be deleted and cover can be extended to include the same with some limitations.
  • Is inland transit covered in Contractors Plant and Machinery Policy?

    No, it is an exclusion. However, it can be extended to cover inland transit at terms to be agreed.
  • Is it possible to provide Land Transit cover from the port to warehouse on export shipments?

    Normally export/third country shipments cover terminates up to the discharge of goods at the arrival seaport/airport but on case-by-case basis we can provide land transit cover from warehouse to warehouse. This depends upon the nature of goods & proximity of final warehouse from port of discharge.
  • Is loading/unloading covered in All Risk section?

    Yes. Loading/unloading covered in All Risks.
  • Is principals existing property automatically covered under Contractors All Risk?

    No, The value of the principals existing property needs to be declared and will be covered under section – I (material damage) and premium will be charged for the same.
  • Is there any age limit for obtaining the Travel Insurance?

    Yes for adults between 16 to 65 years of age. Adults should accompany children under 16 years.
  • Is there any assistance for Emergency medical necessity?

    Yes whilst abroad the traveler can access the “Voyager Assistance No. 0044 2084669191” for assistance on Medical Emergencies.
  • Is this Travel Insurance valid for obtaining visas from Embassies as they are asking for Medical Insurance?

    Yes the insurance is necessary for obtaining visas to European countries, USA and Canada. It provides coverage for Emergency.
  • Is this insurance valid for Travel on any Airline including “Cargo” flights?

    Yes as long as the passenger is assigned a proper seat.
  • I’ve had an accident & my car is in a bad state, I cannot drive it? What do I do?

    Contact the Motor Claims Unit or the Toll Free No. (Call Center) they will arrange towing facility for your car.
  • My car is insured with Oman Insurance and I have met with an accident what should I do?

    If vehicle is in movable condition you need to drive it to one of our branches. However if or not. We can arrange to tow. You need to bring to Oman Insurance office the car registration (mulkiya), driving license, police report. If the car has agency repairs you can send the car directly to the Agency. You can visit any of our branches any time during the working hours (if the condition is repairs outside the agency i.e. at any garage, you should come only during the garage visiting hours.)
     
  • On my card its written 20% co-insurance on all outpatient services. What does it mean?

    The coinsurance/co pay is the amount which is specified on the OIC Healthcard, should be paid by the insured member to the Healthcare provider on all covered services rendered. You need to pay 20% of the total expenses incurred.
  • On my card its written Deductible: Dhs.40/- on consultation. Do I have to pay anything for Investigations/ medicines?

    Here the deductible/copy is applicable only on consultation. Hence it is payable only on the specified service. Nothing to be paid on other covered services.
  • Our consignment has already arrived here but we have not taken insurance, is it possible to do it now?

    Yes, provided an open policy is in place.
  • Our policy is renewed but I have not received the new cards. How can I avail the med. treatment until then?

    The network clinic/Hospital have to be accessed and the expenses shall be on reimbursement basis subject to the policy terms. The member shall pay cash for medical treatment /services and medications and submit the original invoices and completed reimbursement claim form from the treating doctor with supplementary documents to OIC through their offices. The reimbursement shall be made as per the policy terms and conditions.
  • Our stock rotates every month, how would you provide coverage?

    Insured has to estimate the maximum value of stock, which he may be holding at a particular point of time during the policy. The same may be considered as the sum insured and the premium rate is changed on the sum insured. At the beginning of each month, the insured has to declare the highest value of stock, which he was holding during the previous month. The same shall be considered as declaration for that month. At the end of the policy period, the premium is adjusted based on the average monthly declarations provided by the insured.
  • Provider calls to ask that the patient is not carrying Oman Insurance health card, what should be done?

    The expenses shall be on reimbursement basis subject to the policy terms. The member shall pay cash for medical treatment /services and medications and submit the original invoices and completed reimbursements claim form from the treating doctor with supplementary documents to OIC through their offices.
  • Should I take insurance for the shop /building if I am not the owner?

    Not required, It is the responsibility of the owner of the building to take insurance, since he has got the insurable interest. You can take insurance for the contents in the shop. However, to protect the tenant in the event of any damage to the building for which he is legally liable, he may opt for Tenants Legal Liability extension under Fire/ Property All Risks Policy.
  • We are manufacturing plastics. Can you provide insurance?

    Normally, we are not very keen to insure plastic factories. However, it can be dealt on a case-to-case basis.
  • We want to insure our warehouse/stock/office how much is the Premium?

    There is no fixed tariff. However, the rate /premium shall be decided on a case to case basis.
  • What are incoterms?

    It defines the obligations between the buyer & seller in respect of transport, costs & risks. The incoterms are :

    • EXW – Ex works
    • FCA – Free carrier 
    • FAS – Free alongside ship
    • FOB - Free on Board
    • CFR – Cost & Freight
    • CIF – Cost, insurance & freight
    • CPT – Carriage paid to
    • CIP – Carriage & insurance paid to
    • DAF – Delivered at frontier
    • DES – Delivered ex ship
    • DEQ – Delivered ex quay

  • What are the categories of Total Loss?

    Actual & Constructive total loss.
  • What are the requirements for P & I cover?

    For P&I cover we need the vessel’s complete details, including trading area, class, type of cargo carrying, number of crew, nationality of crew etc and a survey report.
  • What are the requirements for marine cargo insurance?

    Name and address of insured, details of the consignment, packing condition how it is packed? Pallets / carton / bales / bags / bundles etc., conveyance like steamer in container / non-container / on deck / break bulk / bulk &/or airfreight / land conveyance / air parcel post, value, basis of valuation, voyage from where to where, any transshipment is involved or not and confirmation letter from the insured that the rate and terms agreed by him.
  • What constitutes the basis of S.I in Erection All Risks policy?

    Value of Erection works/Civil engineering works at the completion of erection inclusive of freight, customs, duties & dues, erection cost.
  • What constitutes the basis of sum insured in Contractors All Risk policy?

    Item 1 : Value of contract works at the completion of the construction inclusive of all materials, wages, freight, custom duties, dues and materials or items supplied by the principal.

    Item 2 &3 : The replacement value of construction plant, equipment and construction machinery which shall mean the cost of replacement of the insured item by new items of the same kind and capacity.
     
  • What do I do in case of a claim?

    Incase of a claim you are required to complete a claim form and submit it to any of the OIC office. Along it you are required to attaché all proof of loss or claim like police report, Airline Report, Invoices for lost/stolen/replaces items, Medical Expenses and doctors report depending on the nature of claim.
  • What do you mean by All Risk ?

    All risk covers the loss or damage to the subject matter insured by perils of the sea, general average sacrifies, salvage charges, jettison, overloading or derailment of land conveyance, collision or contact of vessel with any external objects other than waters, breakage, water damage, non-delivery & partial losses excluding certain perils which appear under the exclusion clause.
  • What do you mean by Alteration clause?

    Alteration clause stipulates that an insured shall not make or carry out any alteration work in the insured premises without prior intimation to the insurer.
  • What do you mean by Electrical clause?

    Electrical Clause excludes any damage to the equipment directly caused by the fluctuation in electrical current or short circuit, which subsequently results in a fire. However, the policy covers damage subsequently caused to the other items by the said fire.
  • What do you mean by Hazardous goods?

    Hazardous goods are those which have a low flash point and which can easily get damaged by fire.
  • What do you mean by Replacement value?

    The cost which is required for replacing a property is called replacement value.
  • What do you mean by loss of rent?

    The amount of rent which the insured shall be losing on the event of a loss or damage to the insured property.

  • What else would you cover under a Fire Policy other than fire.?

    There is extension for Earthquakes, storms, floods, tempest, impact of vehicles, aircrafts, bursting of pipes, riots and strikes, malicious damage explosion.
  • What is C & F?

    C&F means cost and freight charges. It is now called CFR. Carriage to be arranged by the seller. Risk transfer from the seller to the buyer when the goods pass the ship’s rail. Cost transfer at port of destination. Buyer paying such costs as is not for the sellers account under the contract of carriage.
  • What is C + ND?

    In addition to ICC ©perils, the non-delivery of an entire unit as per Bill of lading &/or entire container. (damages not covered).
  • What is Classification Society? Is it compulsory to register here?

    Classification society exists so that the ships are built & maintained in seaworthy and safe conditions. These are independent, non-profit making bodies directed by committees of people representing ship owners, ship builders, engine builders & underwriters. Classification is compulsory for ocean going vessels and vessels above certain size.
  • What is FOB ?

    FOB Means - Free on Board. The buyer has to arrange for the freight. Cost transfer from the seller to the buyer when the goods pass the ships rail. Cost transfer as above.
  • What is covered under Contractors All Risk/ Erection All Risk?

    • Material Damage
    • Third Party Liability
  • What is covered under Third Party Liability?

    • Accidental bodily injury to or illness of third parties(whether fatal or not).
    • Accidental loss of or damage to properties belonging to third parties occurring in direct connection with the construction or erection of the items insured under section – I and happening on or in the immediate vicinity of the site during the period of cover.
  • What is covered under the normal Fire Policy?

    Fire and Lightning.
  • What is mode of transport/transit ?

    Mode of transport/transit means how the goods are being conveyed i.e by steamer in container / non-container / bulk / break bulk &/or airfreight / &/or land conveyance / &/or parcel post etc.
  • What is the basic LTC ?

    Whilst conveyed by truck/wagon, the risk covered due to fire, accidental collision, overturning, derailment, break down of bridges.
  • What is the basis of Sum insured in Contractors Plant and Machinery Policies?

    The current new replacement values irrespective of the purchase value forms the basis of sum insured in C.P.M policy.
  • What is the body of pleasure craft made of?

    Normally it is made of GRP materials and it can also be made of steel, wood and aluminum with engine outboard or inboard.
  • What is the difference between Property All Risks and Fire Insurance? Is there a difference in rate between the two?

    Fire Policy covers Fire and Allied Perils. Property All Risks Policy covers Burglary and Accidental damage in addition to Fire and Allied Perils and therefore has a higher premium as well.
  • What is the difference between Theft and Burglary?

    Taking away of property without forcible entry into or exit from the premises is called theft. Whereas, a theft by forcible entry into or exit from the premises is called Burglary.
  • What is the minimum capacity for launch shipments?

    The GRT (Gross Tonnage) of the launch should be above 100 GRT or loading capacity should exceed 300 tons. Shipments exceeding Dhs. 500,000/- carrying launch subject to a condition survey.
  • What is the standard war rate?

    Standard war rate is 0.05% as per war scale for non-war prone areas.
  • What is “C” Clause ?

    ICC © covers loss or damage to the subject matter insured reasonably attributed to fire or explosion, general average, jettison, vessel or craft being stranded, grounded, sunk or captured. Normal damage and shortage is not covered.
  • What kind of Insurance Covers do you have under the Motor Insurance?

    We have: 

    • Comprehensive Cover which covers any accidental damages to the owner’s vehicle and property damage, injury and death to third party.
    • Fire & theft
    • Third Party Liability which covers only property damage, injury and death to third party.
    • Extension for personal accident for drivers, family members and passengers for all covers.
  • What kind of repair garages do you have?

    We do repairs at agency and reputable garages.
  • When should I take an annual Contractors plant and machinery policy?

    The Annual Contractors Plant and Machinery Policy should be taken when the machineries are going to be used in different locations throughout the year.
  • Which item has maximum excess?

    Chandeliers, glassware items, sugar shipments & bulk shipments in general.
  • Which period does you not cover launch shipments?

    During monsoon we do not provide cover for certain monsoon affected countries & during winter for the shipments bound for northern gulf ports.
  • Why should I insure my machinery for a new replacement value when the purchase value is much lower than that?

    The value of machinery is likely to increase every year. At some period of time, the value of some parts of the machinery may exceed the purchase value itself. Hence, in order to bridge this gap the machinery should be insured on a new replacement value basis.

    Yes. Bring a letter from your company informing us the same.
  • Are Contractors plant and Machinery covered in Contractors All Risks policy?

    Yes, Contractors plant and Machinery are covered under C.A.R policy.

  • Consignment has been shipped and is on its way to the destination port. Can we do the insurance now?

    Yes, we can insure the goods subject to no known or reported loss up to the date and time of advise.

  • Do you accept insurance through freight forwarders?

    Yes. We are accepting insurance through freight forwarders provided insurance is made in the name of the legitimate cargo owner.

  • Do you charge excess for all risk consignments?

    Not for all goods. It depends upon the nature of goods like glass items, vehicle, steel pipes, G.I. pipes, and bulk cargoes. In general depending to the nature of goods and nature of conveyance, packing facility, and an excess condition is being imposed under the policy.

  • Do you cover faulty design, defective material and workmanship?

    Loss or damage to items immediately affected by the above are not covered. However, the cover can be extended to include loss or damage to correctly executed items resulting from an accident due to faulty design, defective material and workmanship.
